Greenhouse vs. Tornado

This post is a flashback to when I received an email from our customer about a tornado that touched down in Connecticut and miraculously the glass greenhouse was virtually unscathed. The photos show the greenhouse on the original wood foundation and then being hoisted up to replace the rotting wood with a brick foundation: “Angela, the entire greenhouse twisted on the foundation and not a single pane of glass broke. Unfortunately, the pressure-treated wood it was sitting on had rotted. So the gentleman who installed the greenhouse built a truss system and lifted the entire greenhouse up while mason’s came in and replaced the foundation. The only notable damage was to the poly carbonate panel because a large branch came through it, and the wind caught the roof vent and ripped it off. The winds were in excess of 110 miles an hour and the entire area sustained a tremendous amount of damage. Greenhouse vs. Hurricane

One of our sweetest greenhouse customers lives in Houston, Texas and last year lived through the destruction and damage of Hurricane Harvey. When news of the trajectory hit the media, we immediately thought of her and within days received photos of her greenhouse submerged in about 7 feet of water.

We discussed what might be required to get the greenhouse up and running again. Possibly glass, weather stripping, caulking, maybe a new door.

This time a phone call came in with great news. Her family was safe and her greenhouse withstood the storm without any damage. The only thing needed was a good cleaning. As our friends in the south face more weather challenges, we send our sincerest wishes for safety and an easy cleanup.
